The Saga of Brooklyn

In the six-month update for the twins, I stated that Brooklyn is "very interested in exploring the world around her".

I'm starting to think that was an understatement.

This girl will get her hands on anything and everything she possibly can.  She watches and observes EVERYTHING with interest.  Tyson and I are usually okay with letting her explore to her heart's content, but her efforts to get at the DVDs were just the beginning...

The other day I carried Caden downstairs, then came right back upstairs for Brooklyn. But...I didn't see her.  I seriously had no idea where she was.  She was definitely not on the blankets where I had left her.  In the past forty seconds, I had literally walked downstairs, and then walked back up.

"Brooklyn?" I said.  (Because of course I expected my 6-month old to respond to me with her whereabouts.  "Why here I am, mother".)

Well she DID respond.  Or at least, after saying her name, I noticed a little head peeking at me from around the side of the dresser...

"What?"

Then a couple of days ago, she rolled and belly-scooted all around the living room, just to wind up...

...completely underneath the chair.  Which I thought she would hate, seeing as she couldn't put her head all the way up, but clearly...

She was having a good time.  At least a half-hour's worth of a good time.  I would like to reiterate that there was a PILE of toys JUST outside the range of this photograph.  But no. Forget toys.

The whole reason to roll under the chair in the first place was to get at the safety and materials tag, of course.

It's apparently quite humorous.  I'll have to roll down there and check it out myself sometime.

Oh and we had to examine the leg of the chair.  Quite interesting.

And then TODAY.

Well...

This is what happens when Daddy is in charge.

Just look at that smug little face.  She is so proud of herself.

Kitchen Helpers

These guys jumped right from solid foods to helping in the kitchen.

Their cooking skillz could use some work though.  They really weren't much help at all.  So far their abilities are limited to:
  1. Eating kitchen utensils.
  2. Banging kitchen utensils.
  3. Throwing kitchen utensils.
  4. That's it.

(These are what they were "helping" me make.  They were delicious and you should go make some right now.)

First "Solid" Food!

On Thursday, the babies had a taste of their first solid food (brown rice cereal mixed with breast milk.  So...mostly breast milk.).  (Also, when I told Tyson that we were going to start them on eating cereal, he thought I meant like actual cereal.  Cheerios maybe.  Or his childhood favorite, Cocoa Krispies.  Powdered brown rice is admittedly much less fun.)

BEFORE:

Yay!  We're so happy!  Just going about our little lives as usual.  We have no idea what is about to happen!

Hello crazy lady.  What do you have there?

AFTER:

Um...

I'm not sure what just happened.

It's mostly on my face.

And I'm super cute.

Also I may have enjoyed eating my bib more than your so-called "food".

Anyway, we recorded it for posterity:

A few days in, and Caden has figured out that spoon = food.  He opens up his mouth when he sees the spoon.  Brooklyn is still a little unsure...she's pretty good about eating and swallowing once I put the food near her mouth, but doesn't voluntarily open up to eat. We'll see how this goes.

Brooklyn vs. the DVDs

Brooklyn has been fascinated by our (small) collection of DVDs for quite some time, and has been on a quest to get her adorable little hands on them...

Sometimes she tries in earnest to reach for them...

(Pretty sure she is going for "Frozen" in this pic.  Who told her about that already?!?)

And sometimes she just enjoys looking at them.

Hmm...what shall i watch today?

But she has never had any success in actually obtaining any of said DVDs.

When suddenly...

a wild Caden appears!

He is super effective.

(And apparently has chosen season two of Grey's Anatomy.  Wise choice, since it only took another season or two for everything to start going downhill...)

(Wait Grey's Anatomy is STILL on?!?  I just googled and apparently they are going on season ELEVEN.  Who is still watching this?  Also, haven't they pretty much killed off all the main characters now?  I don't understand TV.)

I WILL DESTROY EVERYTHING YOU OWN!!!

And so it begins...

So You've Gotten Your Right Foot Stuck Through the Crib Slats

1)  Attempt to pull right foot out from crib slats by scooting self forward.
2)  Manage to get entire right leg stuck in crib slats.
3)  Oh, and the left leg, too.
4)  Attempt to scoot forward some more, only manage to push self further back.
5)  Wiggle legs a lot, discover nothing but air to push off of.

6)  Hmmm...

7)  Call for help.  "Hey!  I'm in distress over here!"

8)  Oh good, help is coming.  Wait, did she walk all the way over here just to take a picture?

9)  Give up in utter defeat.
